Say It Loud and There's Music Playing

When I was little I used to loathe whenever anyone sang a "Maria" song to me.
I should clarify; not just the West Side Story Maria song, but the Sound of Music "How do you solve a problem like Maria" song,  the Santana song (very popular in the 6th grade), Ave Maria, or whatever other tune pops into someone's head when they hear my name.    However, now that I am older and wiser, I have grown to love the songs that share my namesake and have even grown to enjoy the random spurts of real life musical theatre brought on by it.  Although perhaps not the Sound of Music Maria Song; that is still gratingly irritating.

I suppose the reason I am including this little story is that whenever I wear the Maria skirt from Modcloth the Maria Song from West Side Story tends to get stuck in my head and I find myself drifting back to the school age days where I would hear the song at least twice a day...  now it only happens occasionally.  It's strange to think that I have come to miss what I (at one time) disliked so much.

Anyway on to the outfit; I actually wore this same outfit later in the evening to my next job with black heels, black belt, and sans scarf and I think I preferred it.  The belt added some much need contrast between the shirt and the skirt, however I did miss the pop of sea green.

I will admit these photos are from the lovely weather we were enjoying last week, where the sun was shining brightly enough to make the first batch of sun-tea.  I'm glad I had them leftover as the current miserable weather is preventing me from venturing outdoors.  Let's hope this will improve by the end of this week!

Outfit Details:  Maria Skirt: Modcloth.  Striped Button Up: Vintage.  Neckerchief: Vintage.  Shoes: Target.  Earrings: Mom Made.

  6. Many, many, many things about this excite me.

The skirt: holy moses. It's wonderful and (creepily enough) reminds me of my childhood blanket.

And although you preferred the switch- I think this is just perfect as is. Truly.

Also, I collect Vintage Vera scarves!!!!!!!!!! I have maybe... 20? 30? All from different decades- isn't she just the best? Also, (not to brag, I'm just excited. geez) I have several of her table cloths, napkins, and most shockingly: a white leather belt with a gigantic metal&leather ladybug buckle.

It would have been amazing with this outfit of yours...

  7. The Marie song from the sound of music is crazy obnoxious. This outfit on the other hand is delightful. I love the pink and red color combo.
